(BW)(CA-MARCOSOFT)GPS Mapping Software Evolves on the Palm Computing®
Platform.
MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 30, 1999--Mapping and
GPS software breaks new ground on the Palm Computing® Platform,
with MarcoSoft's Quo Vadis mapping system.
The $64.95 system allows users to carry digital maps in their
Palm OS organizers, thus reducing or eliminating the need for
paper maps. Once loaded, maps fit together like puzzle pieces,
and can be zoomed to many levels, as well as searched for streets,
intersections, and other landmarks.
Quo Vadis is a low-cost alternative to other mapping systems which
charge additional fees per map, or GPS receivers which require
expensive map cartridges in order to have metropolitan street-level
detail.
By attaching an optional GPS receiver, Quo Vadis can track and
scroll the map automatically, keeping it centered on the user's
present location. The system accepts both the standard NMEA and
Rockwell Zodiac binary message formats.
Registered Quo Vadis users can download as many maps as they need
from the online map library, which covers the entire United States,
including all island territories such as Guam, and Puerto Rico.
International maps are due to be added this year, beginning with
major European cities.
Due to the extremely rapid growth in the handheld organizer market,
Quo Vadis has become a popular tool for anyone who has ever needed
to verify a given set of directions, find an unknown location,
or become familiar with an area.
"I'm a patrol supervisor in a 53 man department and I'm setting
up my Palm III so it can be used by the average street cop. It's
much easier to locate a local street on a map with Quo Vadis than
using the printed index - very important when responding to emergency
calls. I consider Quo Vadis the most important program in my Palm
III." says Sgt. Larry Lyons, of the Monroeville Police Department
in Pennsylvania.
Quo Vadis is currently only available for online purchase and
download via MarcoSoft's web site. A CD-ROM version is planned
for release this year, as well as customized versions.
